  1. When Rabbi Meir Chevroni founded a shul in New Jersey in his father's name, he faced terrible opposition from the angry neighbors. Pursued by his deceased father's directive, Reb Meir knew he could not give up. Desperately, he prayed, "Eloka d'Meir aneini!" - and against all odds, within just a few months, Congregation Beth Leo took root.

Soon after, Shamayim arranged for Reb Meir to move to Canada, in order to help some holy neshamos who needed him there. Beth Leo remained where it was, thriving and growing into a big, beautiful shul.

Now it's fifty years later, and Reb Meir has traveled back to his beloved Beth Leo. He is finally ready to fulfill the promise he made to his father so many years earlier.

Standing before the congregants, who he feels are like his children, Reb Meir begins waving his cane. What follows are some mindboggling events, which produce unbelievable blessings for the crowd, one after another. Then Reb Meir retells the story of the horrific Chevron massacre, from which his father just narrowly escaped. But it's when the old rav is done, and he leaves the shul, that the earthshaking action - in actuality, a climactic battle - begins...

Written by beloved author Meir Uri Gottesman, Chevron is not just a novel. It transports the reader to many fascinating events in our history: Yehoshua stopping the sun, Shaul Hamelech finding a wife; Chizkiyahu Hamelech falling ill, and King Menasheh being dragged in chains.

    "
    There's a long, awkward silence.
"What's your name?" Breindy Silber asks finally.
"Kayla. Kayla Weiss." Kayla cranes her neck, casts around the room for a moment, and her eyes light on Mimi, frozen in the doorway. "Mimi's my sister."

  9. Inspiring Stories On Seizing "Magic Moments" Of Opportunity To Do Chessed

Believe it or not, Hashem might present you with your greatest opportunities to do acts of chessed when you are least prepared — when you must seize the moment or it will be lost forever.

This book is a collection of true, riveting short stories about how people from all walks of life, in different locations and times, reacted to such “magic moments” of opportunity to do chessed in the most unexpected places — at a wedding, in a mall, while sitting shivah, in a supermarket, riding in a taxi, and in many other venues.

This life-changing book makes you realize that it is imperative to ask, in every situation you find yourself:

“Why did Hashem put me in this very place at this very time? What chessed does Hashem expect me to do at this exact moment?”

These stories will train you to become what the author calls an “observant Jew,” someone constantly on the alert for magic moments of opportunity to do chessed.

This concept is learned from the mitzvah regarding a bird’s nest (kan tzipor), popularly known as shilu’ach ha-kan. The Hashem of shooing away the mother bird before taking her eggs or nestlings cannot be orchestrated, but happens “Ki yikarei kan tzipor lefanecha ba-derech” (Devarim 22:6) — unexpectedly, when we go about our normal daily activities — and earns blessings and long life. So treat yourself to a great read, be inspired by these kan-tzipor-moment stories, grab such moments for yourself — and look forward to your own incredible blessings.

“It takes someone like Steve Savitsky to capture the essence of Kan Tzipor, a Torah gem that was waiting to be unearthed. Everyone has their own kan tzipor moments. Reading this book will help you make the most of them.”
