  1. The Abraham Principle: Where Faith & Science Meet

The Abraham Principle: Where Faith & Science Meet

    $15.50

Of the world's seven billion inhabitants, it seems that over half identify with a faith which is Abrahamic. But why, and what does that really mean? Is there really any common ground between Christian and Muslim, Brahman and Jew? In this uniquely edutaining treatise by an ecosystems analyst gone Chassidic, Dr. Arnie Gotfryd explores legend and laboratory, philosophy and fact in an enlightening exploration of the interplay of modern science and traditional faith. Central to his theme is the notion that one elegant yet little-known concept, apparently developed by a child some 3,800 years ago, has engendered both those great solitudes: religion and science, and even today holds the key to their ultimate conciliation. Talks Delivered In 1944-45 By Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn Of Lubavitch

In 1945, after a decade of fearless battle against adversity in Soviet Russia, and a decade of confrontation with other kinds of adversity after leaving Russia, the Previous Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, was in the midst of his third decade as Rebbe. Now in the free world, with the sound and fury of the war years behind him, challenges of a different kind loomed before him. Seemingly they were less formidable, but in fact they were no less threatening to the very survival of the Jewish people as a Jewish people. Many Jews in the New World were now newly savoring freedom and prosperity in the Land of Gold, and assimilation in the spicy melting pot of American culture offered a tantalizing option. In the past, it was adversity that had taken the lives of even more, yet some rabbinic and lay leaders were merely wringing their hands in despair.

During the same period, when Eretz Yisroel was still agonizing under the British Mandate, the secular leaders of the Yishuv were courageously saving great numbers of refugees ("illegal immigrants") from camps of postwar Europe and settling them in the Holy Land. However, in the eyes of many, including the Rebbe Rayatz, the manner in which thousands of unaccompanied refugee children were being educated was a cause for alarm.

The above cataclysmic crisis of that era - in America, the lure of assimilation, and Eretz Yisroel, the secular indoctrination of those children from observant European homes - are only two of the urgent issues that explain the passion that fires the present broad range of talks. As in all the farbrengens of the Rebbe Rayatz, these talks are a veritable symphony of diverse but harmonious themes - inspirational teachings, chassidic expositions, candid (but loving) pointers to personal growth, historical jottings, portraits of vintage chassidim, heartwarming narratives, family traditions, and pungent comments on the Jewish world of his time. Mission Possible

Rabbi Lazer Gurkow, author of “Reaching for G-d” and JLI’s “Portraits of Leadership,” is set to release his third book, “Mission Possible – Living With Higher Purpose.

“This book will uplift, inspire and fill your life with meaning,” says Rabbi Gurkow. “Just when you wondered why you are here and why bother, you will learn that you are a critical part of G-d’s master plan and that without you, G-d’s vision for the world cannot be realized.”

In every family home there comes a hectic moment, when the children act up just as the toddler overturns his drink and the coffeemaker goes on the blink. One or both parents will sigh and ask, “Why did I sign up for this, am I crazy?”

When life drags you down, responsibilities burden you, bills pile up, and you’re worn to the bone, don’t despair. This is not your weakest hour. It’s your finest moment. When life pushes you to your limit, you probe its deepest meaning.

Why we are here, is a question to embrace. Drawing on the timeless wisdom of Torah, flavored by the insights of Chassidic mysticism, this book will make you comfortable with the question. More important, it will offer insights that put life back into perspective.

“Mission Possible – Living with Higher Purpose.” is the Rebbe's vision for individual empowerment. Every Jew is an indispensable tile in G-d’s collective mosaic. Each is created for unique purpose and each is perfectly suited to its fulfillment. Your life matters, because G-d’s mosaic is only complete when your tile is complete.

The book is filled with practical advice on applying the Rebbe’s sophisticated ideas to daily life. Rabbi Gurkow is bringing this book to market in honor of Gimmel Tamuz, twenty years, to help the reader appreciate the many ways in which the Rebbe’s wisdom can enhance our quality of life. The Art of Giving - להבין מארז"ל ... גבי צדקה כל פרוטה ופרוטה מצטרפת לחשבון גדול

A Chasidic discourse by Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Lubavitch, The Tzemach Tzedek

What`s the ideal way to give tzedakah? Specifically, is it best to give whatever we can at any given time regardless of the amount, or should we postpone our tzedakah giving until such time as we can afford to make a more sizable contribution? Or is neither approach necessarily preferable to the other?

The Art of Giving emphatically excalims that, yes, it does indeed make a difference how we go about giving to tzedakah, because the experience of tzedakah is about so much more than meets the eye. Learn More

Path to the Tree of Life

Lessons on Tanya adapted from the teachings of Rav Mordechai Silver, shlit"a, with the approbation of Rav Moshe Wolfson, shlit"a

For many years, Rav Mordechai Silver, shlit"a, one of this generation's great masters of Chassidic thought, has given classes on Tanya, the classic Jewish guide to a life of purpose authored by Rav Shneur Zalman of Liadi. Path to the Tree of Life, adapted from Rav Silver's classes, reveals an eye-opening, life-changing perspective on the lessons of the holy Tanya. This book will enlighten your soul, inspire devotion, and bring you closer to your true self.

"Rabbi Silver's words ... spring from a heart that is wise and pure. His ideas are exalted and deep, and they gladden the heart of those who seek Hashem. I am certain that with Hashem’s help this book will make a positive change in the hearts of many, many Jews. Their eyes will light up with the precious treasures from the holy Tanya."

-- Rav Moshe Wolfson, shlit”a, Rav of Beis Medrash Emunas Yisroel, Mashgiach Ruchani of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas

Rav Mordechai Silver, shlit"a, is the Rebbe of Kehal Toldos Yehuda - Stitchin. His students have established centers under his leadership in Boro Park, Jerusalem, Lakewood, Monroe, Monsey, and Williamsburg. He is a student of some of the greatest tzaddikim of the previous generation , including Rav Yehuda Horowitz, zt"l, the Stitchiner Rebbe, and Rav Yitzchok Kalish, zt"l, the Amshinover Rebbe. Rav Silver has become renowned as one of most profound expositors of Torah thought and Chassidus of our time. Although speaking almost exclusively in Yiddish, the Rebbe’s brilliance has spread far beyond his Bais Medrash. Aside from the many people who flock to the Rebbe to receive blessings and spiritual guidance, thousands more study his Divrei Torah on a weekly basis and find in them the inspiration, encouragement, and proper guidance necessary to continue their quest to gain closeness to Hashem.

In the years 5758-5765 (1998-2005) Rav Silver taught classes on a weekly basis to young men on the Tanya. The classes were taught in Yiddish. This book is based on those lessons. The Yiddish has been translated and adapted to a broader audience. Rabbi Reichman has added testimonies, stories, and other insights of his own to these lessons in order to make them more understandable to those unacquainted with Chassidic thought. This is the first book in English that is based on Rav Silver’s Torah ideas.

    About The Author

Rabbi Zev Reichman studied at Yeshiva Shaar Hatorah- Grodno, Yeshivas Knesses Yisrael-Chevron, and Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchok Elchanan. He serves as the Rabbi of East Hill Synagogue in Englewood, N.J. and as a teacher of Talmud and Jewish Thought at Yeshiva University. He has also authored, Flames of Faith: An Introduction to Chassidic Thought, and translated Remove Anger From Your Heart: A Torah guide to patience, tolerance, and emotional well being. Learn More
