The "Bar Mitzvah," the day a Jewish boy turns thirteen, is a turning point in his life. He comes of age, is responsible to adhere to the mitzvot, and is considered fully accountable for his actions-and everyone celebrates.
Among Chabad Chasidim, the "Bar Mitzvah boy" marks this milestone by publicly delivering the present Chasidic discourse which explores the spiritual dimensions of the mitzvot of Torah study and tefitlin.
The discourse was written by Rabbi Shmuel Schneersohn, fourth Lubavitcher Rebbe. It was first delivered by his son and successor, Rabbi Shalom DovBer Schneersohn, on 20 Cheshvan 5634, at his Bar Mitzvah. It was subsequently delivered by the latter's son and successor, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, on 12 Tammuz 5653, which was the occasion of his Bar Mitzvah.
CHANNELING THE DIVINE offers insight into the concepts articulated in the "Bar Mitzvah discourse."
