The Heroic Struggle, has been newly translated from the Rebbe's notes and memoirs by Rabbi Dr. Alter B. Z. Metzger, professor of Jewish studies at Stern College. It is the most comprehensive account ever published of this pivotal event in one of the blackest periods in modern Jewish history. Included are 32 pages of pictures and facsimiles of documents, several in print for the first time. A detailed historical prologue sets the scene for the Rebbe's moving narrative. Extensive notes provide additional background. Appendices some by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe reflect on the spiritual significance of the ordeal.
