Meet Debbie Solomon: reluctant big sister, champion swimmer and math class misffit Debbie's days at Chicago Hebrew Academy are filled to the brim. She has a whole circle of great friends - friends who can empathise with Debbie's dread over her upcoming Bat Mitzvah. Follow Debbie and her best friend Leah, whose quick wit and wild schemes threaten to get them into trouble.
Without telling Debbie first, her mother enrolls her in the Bat Mitzvah Club, which causes Debbie some distressing conflicts. Then one day, while visiting her grandmother, Debbie discovers an unsolved family mystery and she becomes obsessed with it. If things weren't bad enough, Mr. Hankins, Debbie's English teacher, assigns a uniquely challenging research report which leads Debbie in a startling new direction.
