  4. Stories on the Siddur to Bring Your Tefillos Alive

Prayer. That unique form of communication between us and our Creator; the connection that brings us close to Him while simultaneously effecting our own yeshuos.

But prayer doesn't always come naturally to us, especially when we have a hard time understanding or relating to the tefillosPortraits of Prayer's goal is to change that.

In this second volume of Portraits of Prayer, the tefillos of Birchos Krias Shema through Shemoneh Esrei, as well as the tefillos after Shemoneh Esrei, are explored and beautifully explained.
Fascinating and inspiring stories abound throughout the pages, bringing to life the verses from the siddur that we say each day, and helping us see the relevance of these words to our own reality.

As with Volume 1 of this highly-in-demand series, you'll find yourself turning to Portraits of Prayer frequently as a way to connect to your tefillos...and to your Father in Heaven.

    ---
Hashem gave Rav Eliezer Abish a tremendous zechus; he has accomplished a wonderful thing.  After the Beis Hamikdosh was destroyed, we weren't able to bring korbanos anymore, but Hashem said that tefillos are more precious to Him than korbanos. What a wonderful zechus he has to present the tefillos in a way that is appealing to people, thereby assisting them to appreciate their davening.
    - Harav Gamliel Rabinovitch, Rosh Hayeshivah, Yeshivah Hamekubalim Sha'ar Hashamayim, Yerushalayim
It is critical for our generation that people enjoy their davening; that they understand and find deep meaning in their tefillos. We can be sure that this work will leave a strong impression on all who have the pleasure to read and learn from it.

  5. Discover a Classic Work - And Watch Your Own Tefillos Soar!

Of course, we daven. Of course, we say the words.

But have you ever wanted to bring authentic passion and fire to your tefillos?

Have you ever wanted to truly feel connected to Hashem through your mitzvos? This classic sefer will help.

Published close to 250 years ago by Rav Alexander Ziskind of Horodna, Sefer Yesod VeShoresh HaAvodah outlines the kavanos, the intentions we should have before performing any mitzvah. It also brilliantly describes the intensity and kavanos we should have in our prayers, and the deeper meaning of specific tefillos.

Finally, we can bring the author's passion, fervor and holiness into our own lives, and into our own mitzvos and tefillos, profoundly deepening our connection to prayer and to our Creator.

Vol. 1 contains the first four She'arim (Gateways) of the sefer, covering the following topics, among others:

    • Shaar 2 – The Gate of the Early Morning Watch: How to best perform the mitzvos, berachos, and tefillos that apply from the moment we awaken until we complete the section of Korbanos, and the importance of davening in a shul and treating it with respect.

    • Shaar 3 – The Gate of Song: Inspirational thoughts to elevate our Pesukei DeZimra, as well as guidance for properly pronouncing the words of the tefillah.

    • Shaar 4 – The Eastern Gate: Kavanos to enhance our recitation of Birchos Krias Shema, and detailed kavanos for Krias Shema itself.

  8. Chazal in Perek Shirah gathered eighty-five elements of the natural world, each one declaring a certain truth, its own shirah. Minerals, plant life, aquatic life, and animal life all take their place in a glorious shiras ha’briah. What, however, are those truths, cryptically encoded in the shiros? What messages should we meditate on while reciting the words of Perek Shirah?

In Exploring Perek Shirah, each shirah is examined through the lens of Chazal to discover its inner meaning. The origin and purpose of this ancient text are also examined to discover the spiritual foundation of our natural world.

“This work is literally an encyclopaedic compendium on Perek Shirah... I found [it] fascinating, informative, and inspiring.”

    Rabbi Zev Leff

“Today there is a worldwide thirst for understanding the meaning of Perek Shirah, and Rebbetzin Tugendhaft has done a remarkable job in making it accessible to the wider public.”

    Dayan Y.Y. Lichtenstein
