  1. With its scrupulous attention to historical accuracy, its profound understanding of Torah hashkafah, and its magnificent collection of photographs, The World That Was series has been hailed worldwide for offering readers a fascinating, Torah-oriented perspective on history.

In the first volume of The World That Was Eretz Yisrael, we traveled through two millennia, from the Churban through the beginning of the twentieth century. This second volume picks up where its predecessor left off. Intrepid settlers have come to develop the land and establish new settlements. Though many had unfortunately loosened their ties to Torah, others arrived and laid the foundation for the burgeoning of Torah learning that we experience to this very day.

The story of the resurgence of Torah and of settlement in Eretz Yisrael is a remarkable — and sometimes even miraculous — one, peopled by unforgettable, idealistic Jews. We will see them establishing yeshivos and Bais Yaakovs, kollelim, Chassidic courts and Torah communities, amid the backdrop of constant challenge and sacrifice. We will marvel over their resilience, determination, and incomparable sense of achrayus for their people, and we will understand our own world better as we see them building Hashem’s beautiful, holy land. 2. With scrupulous attention to historical accuracy, profound understanding of Torah hashkafah, and its magnificent collection of photographs, charts and illustrations, The World That Was Eretz Yisrael is the latest addition to The World That Was series. These volumes have been hailed worldwide for offering readers a fascinating, Torah-oriented perspective on the history of the Jewish communities in various countries. Now, once again, the author meticulously presents the richly layered account of seminal events in the history of the holy, beloved land of Eretz Yisrael, the heart of the Jewish People.

Promised to our ancestors, Eretz Yisrael was the Jewish homeland for over 1,000 years. In this exceedingly long exile of close to two millennia, it has remained our hope, our dream, the destination of our hearts’ desire, the place we turn to in our prayers.

Volume One of The World That Was: Eretz Yisrael explores its history from the aftermath of the First Temple to the beginning of the Twentieth Century. And what an incredible history: The turbulent Second Temple era, the momentous redacting of the Mishnah, the saintly Tannaim and Amoraim, the Moslem, Crusader, and Ottoman conquests, the writing of the Zohar and, later, the Shulchan Aruch. And of course, the various aliyah movements, from the students of the Baal Shem Tov, Vilna Gaon and Chasam Sofer, to the survivors of the Holocaust. All of them were courageous Jews who followed their hearts’ passionate call and came to build what was then a desolate, dangerous land. With uncompromising commitment and love, they triumphed over unimaginable challenges to build Yerushalayim’s Old Yishuv and develop the rest of the Land.

The World That Was: Eretz Yisrael is the riveting story of the unbreakable bond between Hashem, His People, and His beautiful, Holy Land. Learn More

  3. One Woman's Experiences with ALS

I entered a taxi one day, on my way to an urgent meeting.
Please Hashem, I davened, let the meeting go well. Let me not fall or choke. Hashem, You are the Ultimate Goodness. I'm scared. Hold my hand please and let these incidents pass.

The taxi drew to a halt, I paid the driver, and...

I can't get out!!! What's this? Help me! What is wrong with me?
My feet don't move. It's as if a mammoth pump has sucked the energy out of my legs so chat they are left lying, completely lifeless, on the taxi seat.

Hashem, what is going on with me? What is going to happen to me next?

Geveret! The driver is losing his patience.

I flush, my redness stemming from embarrassment,
and even more so from fear and dread.

    Geveret!!!

    Driver, I cannot get out...

Thus begins the spine-tingling story of the active and vibrant Mrs. Esther Klein, educational supervisor of the Bais Yaakov preschools in Jerusalem, and an esteemed lecturer and pedagogic center director.
When Mrs. Klein fell ill with an incurable, neurodegenerative disease, even the walls closing in on the best years of her life couldn't stop her from spreading her wings heavenwards with emunah and simchah

With simple and couching words, Mrs. Klein writes her story. Alongside her moving and couching experiences, all the chapters of this book include spiritual and educational insights. For in the author's opinion, there is no point being couched and moved, if those emotions don't lead to action. Learn More
  4. Effective Living, An upbeat and uplifting life can be yours

In Effective Living, Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski, M.D., shares with us two of the most important truths he has learned in his many decades of cutting-edge work, both as a psychiatrist and as a rav.

Change is hard. And change is possible.

Drawing upon his years of experience with thousands of people who want to live meaningful and satisfying lives, he shows us how to become more effective in our relationships - as parents, as spouses, as employees and as human beings living in an increasingly complex world. We learn how to walk the fine line of "assertiveness" - the balance between passivity and aggression. We discover how to motivate ourselves and others; how to uncover just what it is we really want to do, and how to make it happen; how to find the strength within us to change "I wish" to "I will."

Dr. Twerski does not back off from addressing many of the ills of contemporary society, such as eating disorders, anxiety and depression, "burnout," and ADHD. Whether it is we or our loved ones who must deal with them, we will gain immeasurably from his balanced and compassionate perspective on understanding and coping with these challenges.

Effective Living includes sections on parenting young children and adolescents, on the specific challenges of the "sandwich generation," on issues of aging, and on the primary importance of prayer-its profound power and the peace of mind it proffers. And of course, the book features the true-life stories that bring Dr. Twerski's wisdom to vivid life.

In Effective Living, Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski, M.D. takes us on a grand tour... of ourselves, our personalities, our minds, and our amazing capacity for growth. Learn More
