The Rosh Hashanah prayer service. So many hours. So many prayers. Here's one way to make them more meaningful to us.

Through stories and explanations, we begin to learn so many things about Rosh Hashanah and its prayers:

How can we relate to Hashem as our King?

As our Father? As both at the same time?

Why does the word tefillah mean so much than merely a prayer?

Why do we eat symbolic foods on Rosh Hashanah; aren't our prayers enough?

What is the highest honor a person can attain? And why do we try to attain it on Rosh Hashanah?

World-renowned psychiatrist, bestselling author, and beloved rav, Rabbi Dr. Twerski has been guiding us for decades. And now, with Twerski on Machzor, we can take him to synagogue with us on Rosh Hashanah, to ensure a meaningful prayer experience - and a very happy new year. Learn More

  5. Who was Yonah and where did he come from?

What could prompt a prophet of G-d to refuse his divine mission?

Did Yonah really believe that he could run away from Hashem?

Why is this story concerning a gentile nation read on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year?

Once again, Rabbi Yosef Deutsch answers these and other questions using his matchless talent of blending midrashim and other sources to afford us a fuller understanding of the events that make up the amazing Book of Yonah.

Discover the background leading up to Yonah’s divine charge to rebuke the people of Nineveh. Travel the sea with the prophet and be privy to its secrets. Understand the mystery of the kikayon. Find out why Yonah’s prophecy to this non-Jewish nation was really a warning for the Jewish people. And most important, strengthen your understanding of the lifechanging power of teshuvah.

Here is Rabbi Deutsch at his best: descriptive, lively, detailed, entertaining, relevant. Eighth in the "Let My Nation" series, this volume delves into fundamental issues of Jewish thought, such as reward and punishment, divine providence, free will, and repentance. Culled from Talmudic and Midrashic sources, Let My Nation Be Warned highlights Hashem’s caring hand in the affairs of nations — and in our daily lives.

  7. The Laws and Customs of Rosh Hashanah

The study of Shulchan Aruch at times is very challenging in terms of clarifying the ‎final stance of the learned subject. This especially applies in instances that many cases ‎and opinions exist within a given topic. In addition, throughout the generations ‎hundreds of practical questions on the laws in Shulchan Aruch arose. Getting a proper ‎grasp on the laws of Rosh Hashanah especially faces this challenge due to the ‎hundreds of customs that came in later generations and have not been recorded in the ‎Shulchan Aruch. Even amongst the currently available English literature, the opinion ‎of the greatest of the Achronim, the Shulchan Aruch Harav, is many times omitted or ‎not given its proper presence. Likewise the Chabad custom related to Elul and Rosh ‎Hashanah are not given their proper presence. This Sefer tackles all the above ‎deficiencies. A clear summary of the rulings of Shulchan Aruch Harav together with ‎hundreds of practical Q&A that were compiled from classical Halachic sources. All ‎this is compiled with an emphasis of the Chabad custom and informative footnotes ‎that lend the reader background information and other opinions voiced on the subject ‎matter. ‎ Learn More
